On Oakland and Occupy in General

On Oakland Tuesday night, I watched police in riot gear shoot tear gas and hurl flashbangs into a protest in Oakland that, by every account I've read, was peaceful aside from a very few isolated miscreants. Civil disobedience was met with disproportionate and potentially lethal force (lethal: as in, no, the tear gas itself won't kill you, but a canister bashing your head certainly can). UPDATE #2: We won!! UPDATE: It's not clear if it's official yet, but we *appear* to have finished ahead of San Fransisco by several thousand. I haven't been able to track down any word from official sources (at least not on Google or Twitter), so I have no idea if it's official, but it has to at least be a good sign, right? Wow. It takes a lot for Glenn Beck to surprise me anymore, but the Twitter/Facebook kerfuffle about this just caught my attention. Check this out.
