Everybody’s Records is in trouble

Frankly, I was hoping to dust the blog off on a happier note than this one, but I want to get this in front of as many eyes as possible. I covered this over on Voices, but just in case there are any of you who (used to) read this blog and not that one, the abridged version is that Walgreens is trying to move approximately 150 yards onto the corner where Everybody’s and the Gaslight sit. If you know the area at all, or you’ve ever been to Everybody’s, you can imagine how the locals feel about Read more [...]

A Profile of Occupy Cincinnati, Pt. II

Note: This is Part II of the piece that I composed with Zac from Fatal Downflaw, and it can also be found on CincyVoices. Part I can be found here.   Portrayal in the Media With mega-conglomerate-controlled mainstream news media being the norm for America, it comes as little surprise that  Occupy Cincinnati has some very strong feelings about their portrayal in local media. All present felt like the media was almost waiting in the wings for the group’s next big action - probably hoping Read more [...]

Pujols: Taking His Talents to Anaheim

Hey look Cardinal fans, it could be worse; at least you didn’t get it as bad as Cleveland did, right? Deadspin published this little nugget last night that I think might be of some interest (for the purpose of gloating, if nothing else) to Reds fans. It begins by quoting Prince Albert in this 2009 interview: "Do I want to be in St. Louis forever? Of course," Pujols said. "Because that city has opened the door to me and my family like no other city is ever going to do. I don't want to [go to] Read more [...]

A Profile of Occupy Cincinnati, Pt. 1

Note: Sorry for the drought, but it’s been one hell of a November on a personal front, but hopefully the width and breadth of this article will make up for it. It’s been embarrassingly long in the making, but I’m pretty f’n happy with the final product. This profile was a collaboration between Zac from Fatal Downflaw and yours truly.  It’s already up there, and at CincyVoices as well, but I figure a few extra readers can’t hurt for the amount of time that we’ve plugged into the project. Read more [...]

Updated: Last day for #HatsOffCIN

UPDATE #2: We won!! UPDATE: It's not clear if it's official yet, but we *appear* to have finished ahead of San Fransisco by several thousand. I haven't been able to track down any word from official sources (at least not on Google or Twitter), so I have no idea if it's official, but it has to at least be a good sign, right? Just a quick reminder for all the twitter folk out there (hold on though, non-Twitter people; I'll tuck something in at the end for you); this is the last day of the Hats Read more [...]

Personal Update

Yes, I'm back again after a long hiatus. I'm sorry to have dropped off of the map there. Busy season started with a bang at work and I was instantly out of time to do anything but work or sleep. I should be resuming regular posts in the very near future. Additionally, for anyone who wasn't already aware, I will also be contributing at CincyVoices regularly. At the time I'm writing this, the site is changing hosts, but posting should be resuming in very short order. If you don't already read it, you Read more [...]

Kilgour in the news?

Image credit: www.cincinnatiteam.com All of the friends I've had from my elementary school days will probably find this Enquirer article pretty cool. Apparently our alma mater (can you even use that for an elementary school? It's probably not proper) has built an honest-to-goodness vegetable garden out back. Apparently it was built with a grant from Macy's, as well as help from the PTA and "a ton of volunteers". It's promoting involvement and healthy eating. Good on them (particularly considering Read more [...]

Hooray Baseball

image from hardballtalk.nbcsports.comThe Reds pulled out an Opening Day win in the epic fashion that basically defined last season. I didn't get to watch it, but we listened at work, and you could just tell that the atmosphere was electric down there. NBC's HardballTalk did a great summation if you have somehow missed the story up until now. The thing that stood out to me the most about this game was that, just like last year, this team gives you everything that they have until the final out. Read more [...]

Streetcar gets support from… Simon Leis?

I'll be honest. I waffle on my opinion of Sheriff Leis quite a bit. There are times when I agree with him (the casino most recently), and there are times when I most certainly do not.Sheriff Leis has come out in support of something else that I've found myself waffling on over the last few months, The Cincinnati streetcar plan.Leis uses the Portland comparison that has been the rallying cry of the pro-streetcar movement for some time now, and he makes some valid points. He's spot on Read more [...]

The Awesome List 7/24

Hello humble readers! (Yes, all ten of you)Now that Ben finally has the blog going again, I felt guilty not trying to contribute something. Even though my schedule is EXTREMELY busy, I'd like to do my part to keep the blog entertaining and interesting.I've decided I'm going to try and do a weekly contribution called "The Awesome List." Let's face it, a lot of things really, really, really, really, suck these days; and I'm sure I could write for hours on a lot of those things, but I think that Read more [...]

Leon Hall Arrested, Tank Johnson Signed; typical week…..

It has not been a good week for sports in this town.First the Bengals sign Tank Johnson. Yes, we deliberately signed a player that already has legal issues in his past. Yeah I know it was just a misdemeanor gun charge, but it still makes me nervous with all the other trouble we've had in the past (I still have visions of Chris Henry waving a gun around in front of the club wearing his own f'n uniform). Could Tank be a good pickup for the Bengals if he keeps his nose clean? Sure, it has potential. Read more [...]

Food for thought

Anyone that knows me knows that there isn't much that I don't have a solid opinion on. I may not be quick to share it for whatever reason, but its there. This would be a rare occasion where I'm pretty torn. Read for yourself. I'm a rabid defender of free speech. I feel that it is one of our most important liberties. Without it, information and ideas are not exchanged, and we are poorer for it. This, however, I'm not so sure on. Legally, I'm sure the school has every right to censor whatever they Read more [...]
